Christmas Party with the Anns
This is it! It's Christmas time indeed.
As we all know, "Christ" in Christmas refers to Jesus Christ. We celebrate his birth on December 25 of every year. The Philippines is one of the two countries in Asia who celebrate Christmas not just as a national holiday but as a full season.
But what does Christmas mean to us today outside of gifts we give, the bonuses we pay out or receive, the carolers on the streets and the Christmas lights that we see all around the city?
I found the simplest way of putting it in the movie Lord of the Rings. Tired and losing hope in the midst of a senseless war, Frodo asked his best friend, "What are we holding on to, Sam?"
Sam replied, "There is something good in this world and that it's worth fighting for!"
How true, isn't it? The message of Christmas is all about "something good" that is already here. Jesus came to remind us about it. All we have to do is recognize it, embrace it and fight for it.
Rotarians have a unique way of fighting for that which is good in this world. We express it through our 4-Way Test of the things we think, say or do.
- Is it the Truth?
- Is it Fair to all concerned?
- Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendship?
- Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?
As we reflect about the year that's about to close, do we say "Yes" to all of these questions? I trust that we all do.
I wish everyone a very joyful Christmas with family and friends!
